It's 2008, rats!
A little sketch to the theme “merry Christmas & the year of the rat”. The Japanese, as a matter of fact, call the little rodent “nezumi”, which can mean either “mouse” or “rat”.
Disney of course takes this as an occasion to make this year the “Mickey Mouse Year”. The Japanese often call Disneyland or better katakana-ised1 “Dizunî-rando” (ディズニーランド) jestingly “Nezumi-rando” (ネズミランド) litterlay “Mouseland”.
1 katakana-ised: The Japanese “alphabet” is a syllabary (mostly consisting of “consonant+vowel” syllables), which doesn’t allow for double consonants and doesn’t have a means of expressing many of the sounds of most European languages. Thusly they have to transcribe everything into their own limited phonetics using Katakana (a syllabary for foreign words).
