Utsuboya identity & seasonal greetings
Summary:
Logo design, identity and seasonal greeting card designs for Utsuboya Ltd.
Notes:
Utsuboya Ltd., came with an unusual design request. They wanted to have visiting cards, logo and seasonal greeting cards completely in a Taishô-era (1920’s) look. Research designs of the time I came across some matchbox designs of the time which became the starting point of these designs.
The unusual company name (“Moray Eel Ltd.”), was reason for the logo, the silhouette of a moray eel. To give the visiting cards more of a Taishô-era touch, very stiff paper was chosen, not too white, with a slightly rough surface.

beaver bros., visiting card design
Summary:
Identity (naming) and visiting card design for the German DJ duo beaver bros.
Notes:
The concept for the visiting card was radical: only the name and the phone number was to be displayed. The duo’s marks were bald heads and blazers with neckties. So emphasizing these features, to be inline with the radical minimalism of the approach, silhouettes giving only the neckties’ colour as an eye-catcher were used as key graphics.

Web animations - PC basics
Summary:
Mini Flash-website explaining basic computer terms and concepts supported by funny animations.
Notes:
How do you wake interest in non-technical people to read explanations of computer and Internet terms? That was the challenge the Japan Medical Association put Pixelblast to.
Using short Flash animations not only to illustrate the concept, but rather to add some pizzazz to the otherwise dry topic was the solution. This way people would hopefully read through all explanations anticipating the next fun animation.

Otto Japan digital signage animation
Summary:
A test conducted with Otto Japan. Video for display on a large TV-screen in a café in Tokyo, as digital signage. Thusly the video has no audio.
Notes:
The idea was to show their current collection and advertise the Otto brand along with the URL of the online shop. Due to their up-market branding, too aggresive placement of the logo and URL would have given a too pushy and cheap image and thusly was avoided.
Standard model shots also used in their catalogue were used for a cost-effective solution.

Calderwood Productions, Identity & Web
Summary:
Logo design, pamphlet and website design for Calderwood Productions.
Notes:
Calderwood Productions needed a personality. A logo, pamphlet and a web site with a consistent look were created. With the founder being of Irish origin, a gaelic pattern seemed appropriate as the logo symbol.
The house font of choice was Rotis (by the famous Otl Aicher), for its modern yet artisan qualities.
